If you look at the coverage in the media of the lack of success of the Funding for Lending Scheme, it seems that it is just another opportunity to kick the banking profession for not lending to small businesses. good patented products need financial support

set up a local panel to review new patented ideas originating from Sheffield to advise,attain funding to patent in Europe and the USA. to be paid back with costs to defend patent from larger organizations. specifically for companies that do not have the financial resources to exploit ideas. Refunds on rates for profit generated by patent if it creates jobs in Sheffield and stays in Sheffield.

Instead of the Government providing the Big Banks with yet more finance to improve their balance sheets and bonuses or trying to develop new banks we should enhance the local community based finance provided by CDFIs particularly for small businesses.

The potential of the Chambers of Commerce is a great source of business support and the most appropriate business signposting vehicle. The regional and national government via BIS should provide more support and funding to the Chambers of Commerce so they can enhance their existing business support and be more pro active.
